About This Event

Palmer Lake Historical Society is Honored to Present: Lee Whiteley “The Playground Trail ~ The National Park-to-Park Highway”. This event is part of the America 250 / Colorado 150 celebration in 2026. Commemorating Colorado’s shared history, honoring our unique people, cultures, and communities. As part of the 250/150 celebrations, the Palmer Lake Historical Society is honored to present Lee Whiteley, author of The Playground Trail: The National Park-to-Park Highway. Lee and his wife Jane are associate producers of the PBS documentary: Paving the Way: National Park-to-Park Highway. This famous Auto Trail came through Palmer Lake, Colorado during the 1920s. Learn the history of some of the local U.S. Highways including U.S. 85 known as the “ribbon of death.” Lee is author of eight books including: The Cherokee Trail: Bent’s Old Fort to Fort Bridger. Books will be available for sale by the author.. Monument Creek, Plum Creek, and Cherry Creek waterways have evolved into major north-south transportation corridors. The Trappers, Smoky Hill and Cherokee trails were used by mountain men, military expeditions, gold seekers and homesteaders. The Palmer Lake Historical Society is an educational 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the Palmer Divide area since 1956. FREE Tri-Lakes Historical Calendars will be available.
