The Joint Commercial Operations (JCO) is a United States Space Force activity established in 2020 to integrate commercial space capabilities to augment military operations — bridging the gap between the rapidly evolving commercial space industry and the national security mission. Operating as a global, virtual construct with regional cells spanning the Americas, Europe, and the Indo-Pacific, the JCO works alongside more than 25 partner nations to deliver unclassified Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Protect and Defend (P&D), electromagnetic spectrum operations (EMSO), tactical surveillance and tracking (TacSRT), and space weather analysis in support of U.S. and allied commanders worldwide. Rather than relying solely on government-owned sensors and intelligence systems, the JCO leverages the speed and diversity of commercial providers — satellite operators, data analytics firms, AI-enabled platforms — to provide timely, operationally relevant information that complements classified government systems.
