About This Event
Faculty and Staff are invited to join the UCCS First Priority Peer Support Program being offered through the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience! Peer Supporters are trained colleagues who are able to provide a safe space for support and resources to peers experiencing stress, trauma, burnout, and more.Peer support is confidential: What is said to a Peer Supporter stays between the peer and the Peer Supporter, except in times of imminent risk. Peer support helps to normalize stress reactions - reducing stigma and barriers to other supports such as professional services, and can increase bonding of an organization or team. Peer Supporters are NOT professional counselors. They listen and support, provide immediate help and assistance and, if necessary, refer personnel to an appropriate professional resource. This program is available to UCCS Faculty and Staff. We are looking to train all Departments and Colleges throughout UCCS. The training consists of a self-paced online class and an in-person Practical Skills Day. The practical skills day is in-person and held from 8:30am to 3:30pm at the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences. Our next training dates are Friday, June 19th and Friday, August 21st.
