Homeschool Program: A Modern View of the Universe Monday, September 21 10:30 – 11:45am This will be the first full program of our USAFA Planetarium’s Homeschool Program: A Modern View of the Universe as seen through the NGSS Standards lens of Earth’s Place in the Universe Today’s Homeschool Program will focus one of the major themes of space science in academic Science Standards, Earth’s Place in the Universe. Our modern view of our place in the universe has been shaped through the history of astronomy & exploration and is continulaly expanding with advances in equipment, technology, and understanding. Join Dr. Dan Polsgrove, Astronomer, Planetarium educator and former Astronomy professor here at the Academy, for a detailed discussion of Earth’s Place in the Universe. What does that mean? What is the Earth and how does it differ from other celestial bodies? Where is the Earth, in terms of our own orbit, the Moon and our relationship to the Sun? What can we understand about living on Earth based on learning Earth’s Place in the Universe and answering the questions above and more? This is a great place to begin science standards in the USAFA Planetarium. In addition to the Live portion of the show, the film From Earth to the Universe. This 25-min film gives us a great, broad view of space, from our home planet to as far out as we have understanding. NGSS STANDARDS: This is one of the headings of the NGSS and covers many science standards through all grades. 1-ESS1-1 Earth’s Place in the Universe IMPORTANT NOTE: With our limited seating, if you RSVP and your plans change for any reason, please email Jeff our Planetarium Director at planetarium@afacademy.af.edu so we can release your seats to another family who can attend.
